Bryce Manyfingers/Singer BIOGRAPHY
Blanket Series: Steadfast, Blanket Me, Sentinel, and Parfleches. 2026.
The idea behind these works was to step out of my comfort zone in terms of not only illustrating native species and animals or illustrating Blackfoot creation stories, but to explore other Blackfoot themes such as diving into the process that surrounds the complex geometric task of designing parfleches. I also wanted to try my hand in portrait work where I received the permission of one my closest friends named Evelyn Mikayla Martin, a Blackfeet artist, whom I look up to and who also focuses a great deal on painting portraits of herself, others, and emphasizing Blackfoot identity and culture. I felt that creating four new artworks would be a great start to explore these themes. I worked on all four works simultaneously while researching parfleches across the continent and reflecting on how portraits of Native Americans have often been done by non-Indigenous artists. The work is meant to reflect Blackfoot representations of respect for land, identity, and sovereignty.
