Melanie Monique Rose BIOGRAPHY

 

Melanie Monique Rose is a Métis/Ukrainian visual artist from Regina, Treaty 4 Territory, a citizen of the Métis Nation of Saskatchewan, and member/board member of Sâkêwêwak Artists’ Collective. Her work explores kinship between land, people, and community, using plants to share ancestral knowledge and imagine decolonial futures through Métis worldviews. 

She studied Fibre Arts at Kootenay School of the Arts and has exhibited widely, including her solo show Li moond di fleur and Storied Objects / Métis Art in Relation. Her natural dye brought her to the National Gallery of Canada and SWAIA Fashion shows. 

Honours include Excellence in Textiles (Saskatchewan Craft Council), CBC Future 40 (2020), the Saskatchewan Foundation for the Arts Endowment Award (2021), the Queen Elizabeth II Platinum Jubilee Medal (2023), and the 2025 Regina YWCA Women of Distinction. 

Rose works as a curator, educator, and workshop facilitator. A mother to Meadow, she integrates family and cultural storytelling into her practice, including the fashion collaborative project Meadows, named after her daughter. She is represented by Assiniboia Gallery.
